Supervisor Recognition
This page provides access to the documents associated with the Recognition of
Supervisors. Please note that applications are being accepted for Category 2
only at this point. The fee for scrutiny and recognition of your application is
£150.00 for UK and EC members and £175.00 for overseas members. Please
make cheques payable to basrt (overseas members please note that payment must be
made in Pounds Sterling).

as failure to do so may result in delays in the processing of your application.
It is also essential that you have sought the permission of the accredited
members of basrt when you name them as Nominators. Likewise you must seek the
permission of your Referee.
Definition of Supervision
Supervision is defined as a contractual working alliance between the Supervisor
and a practitioner in which the practitioner can offer an account or recording
of his/her work, reflect on it, receive feedback and, where appropriate,
guidance. The object of the alliance is to enable the practitioner to gain and
maintain an ethical competence, knowledge, skills, confidence and creativity so
as to give his/her best possible service to his/her clients.
Category
1
Applicant
must be an Accredited and fully paid up Member of BASRT and have been an
Accredited Member for a minimum of two years.
Applicant
must have had training in Supervision (to be decided).
Applicant
should have been supervising practitioners for at least two years on a regular
basis.
80
hours of supervision must have been completed, two or more practitioners must
have been supervised over a two year period prior to the application.
40
of the 80 supervision hours must have been in the supervision of sexual and
relationship work with two or more practitioners.
Applicant
must have regular access to a supervisor/consultant or a group for the
supervisory work and attend and use that access a minimum of six times a year.
Applicant
must be a practising therapist in sexual and relationship therapy.
Category
2
Applicant
must be a current and fully paid up Member of BASRT.
Applicant
must be a competent and experienced practitioner in sexual and relationship
therapy, or work in a closely allied profession, and have been working as a
practitioner in that profession for at least five years.
An
applicant supervising solely with independent practitioners must be an
Accredited Member of BASRT.
Applicant
must be nominated by two Accredited Members of BASRT who are prepared to accept
the responsibility of recommending the applicant as suitable to be considered
for recognition as a supervisor and as such the nominator must have current
knowledge of the applicant’s under-standing of and work in supervision. The
nominator must have known the applicant for at least one year.
Applicant
must have been supervising practitioners over a period of at least two years; 80
hours supervision having been completed with two or more supervisees. 40 of
those 80 hours must be in the supervision of sexual and relationship therapy
work with two or more supervisees.
Applicant
must have regular access to a supervisor/consultant or a group for the
supervisory work and attend and use that access a minimum of six times a year
(minimum 6 x 1 hour).
