General Membership. You may be granted General Membership of BASRT if you meet the following criteria: 1. You must be from a relevant profession. Examples include psychotherapy, medicine, counselling, nursing, social work and psychology. 2. You must support the Objectives of the Association as laid down in the current Memorandum and Articles. 3. You must agree to abide by the BASRT Code of Ethics and Principles of Good Practice for Members and other Governing Documents when working as a sexual, couple and/or relationship therapist. And in addition, applicants should meet one of the following requirements: a. Be in practice as a sexual, couple and/or relationship therapist but do not wish to become an Accredited Member. b. Be in practice as a sexual, couple and/or relationship therapist but do not fulfil the criteria for Accredited Membership. c. Be involved in academic research related to sexual, couple and/or relationship therapy or have a medical or clinical interest in sexual and relationship therapy. General or Student Membership of the British Association for Sexual and Relationship Therapy is not a qualification and must not be represented as such - Codes of Ethics and Principles of Good Practice C31 Notes on Payment and Application Processing Please note that, although the Association will write to the referees requesting references, applicants are expected to take responsibility for ensuring their timely arrival. The General Member subscription is £128.00 Fees should not be paid until you are offered membership, after which payment of the annual fee will confirm membership. Applications for Membership are scrutinised approximately every six weeks. IMPORTANT NOTES: i) applications for accreditation can only be accepted from members who have been general members (rather than student members) for twelve months prior to making the application. |

Student Membership. You may be granted Student Membership of BASRT if you meet the following criteria: 1. You must be from a relevant profession. Examples include psychotherapy, medicine, counselling, nursing, social work and psychology. 2. You must support the Objectives of the Association as laid down in the current Memorandum and Articles. 3. You must agree to abide by the BASRT Code of Ethics and Principles of Good Practice for Members and other Governing Documents when working as a sexual, couple and/or relationship therapist. 4. You must be a Trainee on a BASRT approved course (please provide evidence, eg a copy of the letter from the course offering you a place). Student membership is available for two years from the start of your approved course. After this time you will be upgraded to a general member – see note below. NOTE: If two years after the start of your course you
want to remain as student member because gaining your Diploma has been delayed
you will have to inform the Membership Services Committee providing evidence ie
a letter from your Director of Studies giving reasons. For information, please
note that to apply for accredited membership you need to have been a General
member for a minimum of one year before the application can be made. Affiliate Membership. You may be granted affiliated membership of BASRT if you meet the following criteria: 1. You are either: a. a person who has an interest in the field of sexual health, couple and relationship work - this would normally be through your work, ie in the area of urology, GUM, oncology, family planning, obstetrics and gynaecology or other sexual health work, maybe as a doctor, nurse, midwife, psychologist, health visitor and other allied professionals. b. you are a retired practitioner of sexual and relationship therapy who was previously a General or Accredited member of BASRT and would like to remain involved with the profession. 2. You are not an active practitioner of sexual, couple or relationship therapy in the UK or Ireland (you may be a practitioner of sexual and relationship therapy overseas). 3. You support the Aims and Objectives of BASRT as laid down in the current Memorandum and Articles and accept its governance. 4. You accept BASRT Rule Six which covers Affiliate Membership. 5. You are (if still practicing in your own field) covered by a code of ethics and practice and complaints procedure of another professional body. Affiliate members do not have voting rights. Affiliate members do not sign up to our Code of Ethics & Practice and are not covered by our Complaints Procedure. Affiliate Membership to the British Association for Sexual and Relationship Therapy is not a qualification and must not be represented as such. Notes on Payment and Application Processing Please note the following information regarding your reference: The Association will write to
the referee requesting a reference The Affiliate Member subscription is £70 (sterling) and will be requested on the satisfactory completion of the application process. Please do not send money with your application. Membership applications are scrutinised approximately every six weeks. |
